Community Support Adviser (South Asian Communities)

21 hours per week | Wednesday to Friday between 9am and 5pm | £15,234.60 – £16,470 per annum

Every day, we support people living with dementia, their families and carers to access information, practical support and local connections that help them live well.

We’re looking for a compassionate and proactive Community Support Adviser to join Team Sahara, supporting South Asian communities across Greater Manchester.

Team Sahara is a dedicated service supporting South Asian communities affected by dementia across Greater Manchester. We work alongside people living with dementia, families, carers, community groups, faith organisations and local partners to help people access the support, information and connections they need to live well with dementia.

You don’t need experience in dementia, healthcare or social care to apply. We’re looking for people who can bring transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting others.

You may have gained these skills through customer service, retail, education, housing, hospitality, community work, charities, faith organisations or other people focused roles. You may also have personal experience of supporting or caring for someone affected by dementia.

If you can build relationships, listen with empathy, communicate confidently, solve problems and help people feel understood and supported, you may already have the skills we’re looking for.

Whatever your background, what matters most is your ability to connect with people, build trust and make a positive difference.

Is this role for you?

This role could be a great fit if you enjoy meeting people, building relationships and spending time out in your community.

You’ll spend most of your working week out and about across Greater Manchester, supporting people affected by dementia, attending community events, working alongside local organisations and helping people access the support they need.

You’ll regularly travel between different locations across Greater Manchester, manage your own diary and build relationships with a wide range of people. This role involves being out in communities throughout the week, so you’ll need to be comfortable travelling independently and working across different locations as part of your normal working pattern.

While some planning and administration can be completed from home, the focus of this role is being present in communities, meeting people face to face and building trusted local connections.

What could a typical week look like?

No two days are the same, but you might find yourself:

• Visiting a family affected by dementia and helping them understand the support available to them.
• Delivering an information session at a community centre, faith venue or local organisation.
• Meeting community leaders and partner organisations to build local connections and increase awareness of dementia.
• Supporting a Memory Café, creating a welcoming space where people can connect, share experiences and feel less alone.
• Helping someone access services, support and activities within their local community.
• Attending community events and raising awareness of dementia across Greater Manchester.
• Building trusted relationships with people affected by dementia, their families and carers.
• Connecting people with support that helps them stay independent, informed and connected.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people and is passionate about making a difference.

You’ll be someone who:

• Enjoys meeting people and building relationships.
• Communicates confidently and compassionately with people from different backgrounds.
• Can work independently and organise their own workload.
• Enjoys variety and feels comfortable working across different locations and communities.
• Is confident engaging with community groups, partner organisations and local services.
• Wants to support people, families and carers affected by dementia.

To support the communities we work with, you’ll need to be fluent in English and at least one South Asian language, such as Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Bangla or Gujarati.

Because this role involves supporting people and communities across Greater Manchester, you’ll need to be comfortable travelling regularly throughout the area and working in different locations during the week. Knowledge of Greater Manchester communities, venues and local networks would be beneficial.

Experience of dementia isn’t essential. We’ll provide training and support. What matters most is your ability to build meaningful relationships, support others and work confidently within local communities.
