STC Expeditions is a specialist overseas schools’ expedition and educational travel company. We operate adventurous expeditions and educational journeys for school aged students. We are a small but growing company and we believe passionately about ensuring our trips are run in an ethical, sustainable and responsible way. We have been awarded Travelife Certified status in recognition of our commitment to responsible tourism – one of only five companies in the UK and around 95 worldwide to achieve this internationally recognised sustainability standard. We currently work with two NGO’s for our carbon offsetting, which is included as standard in our trips and we are in the process of introducing carbon labelling for all our expeditions and educational trips. We set the standard in the school travel industry when it comes to sustainability and we continue to look at ways to improve this key aspect of our business. During covid, we started a UK operation known as The Bioasis (see www.thebioasis.com). This is a separate company and its operations are not related to this currently advertised role.
About the role
This is a challenging and rewarding position within our growing business and, as such, we are looking for a very special person. You will be reporting to the Directors of the business and be responsible for the overall operations of our company. This is a key role and an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced operations professional who is passionate about travel and educating the next generation of travellers. Because of the nature of our business and our clients, it is important that you are able to function well under pressure while dealing with schools, teachers, headteachers and suppliers all over the world.
The role is mainly office based but there will be opportunity for worldwide and some UK travel too. You will be extremely well organised, with excellent communication skills and impeccable attention to detail. You will have patience, a methodical approach and good negotiation skills. It is an advantage if you can speak any foreign languages, especially Spanish, but this is not essential. If you like eating sticky buns and cookies too, then you’ll fit right in. Long term there is the potential for the right candidate to take on a senior role in the company.
This is a very varied role working across operations, safety management, system development and sustainability. A summary of the day to day tasks and responsibilities includes:
In addition to the above, there will be opportunity to get involved in product development: research, design and creation of new itineraries.
Skills and Experience …
