Programme Manager, Active Travel Routes and Networks

Up to 37.5 hours per week – happy to talk flexible working
£32,475 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours)

An opportunity to become a senior leader and influencer in active travel in Northern Ireland has arisen in our Programme Manager for Active Travel Routes and Networks role. This is a new and exciting opportunity for you to shape and build a team, enabling us to deliver more active and sustainable travel routes across Northern Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sustrans in Northern Ireland to maximise the increased investment in active travel and scale up the impact and delivery of our work.
Network Development underpins Sustrans’ Paths for Everyone priority to deliver the National Cycle Network (NCN). The NCN is one of Sustrans’ most important initiatives across the UK and involves the delivery of active travel infrastructure in collaboration with a range of key partners. As part of Network Development, you will play a key role in supporting local authorities in planning and delivering greenways.
You will also build the case for, and lead on the development, management and delivery of, projects to improve the built environment. This may include School Streets and other traffic reduction measures as well as projects that support our Liveable Cities and Towns strategic priority such as active travel masterplans and working in partnership with consultancy partners in the delivery of the Department for Infrastructure’s Strategic Transport Planning and Modelling Framework.
Building and maintaining close relationships with key partners such as Department for Infrastructure, local authorities, Department for Communities, Translink and other key partners is key to sell our vision, influence and deliver active travel in Northern Ireland.
We offer true hybrid working with the opportunity to work from home part of the time and some in one of our offices in Belfast or Derry~Londonderry. This role will require some travel across Northern Ireland as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. There may be potential for some travel to Great Britain or the Republic of Ireland.
You must have experience of leading, motivating and managing a team. You will have relevant previous experience in leading large-scale projects reliant on multi-disciplinary teams including, but not limited to, project managers, urban designers, landscape architects, quantity surveyors and civil engineers. You should be able to demonstrate your knowledge of transport and active travel infrastructure, planning, delivery and best practice.
You will build relationships easily with both colleagues and external partners, allowing you to effectively engage and influence key infrastructure and active travel stakeholders on the delivery of projects.
A skilled communicator, you will be able to tailor your style to all levels, allowing you to connect successfully with external participants including communities, clients, partners, businesses and public bodies.
