NSUN is looking to recruit a Policy Officer at an exciting time in its growth and development.
NSUN connects mental health service users/survivors, people with lived experience, and user-led groups. We influence policy, practice and perceptions by amplifying the experiences and aspirations of our members. We are looking for someone with relevant skills to deliver NSUN’s policy function and to articulate a rights-based mental health policy, with a focus on the impact of poverty/precarity, housing and un/employment on mental health.
There is a strong evidence base for the social determinants of mental ill-health, but policy in this area tends to focus on longer-term prevention. NSUN wants to explore the material conditions which make life harder for people living with long-term mental health difficulties. Funded for 3 years by Trust for London, this work will explore how poverty, lack of social security, poor housing or poor working conditions impact on Londoners’ mental health. Alongside the CEO, the Policy Officer will develop a series of achievable policy changes across different areas which would improve Londoners’ mental health. The work will amplify and connect the grassroots work of user-led and community-based campaigning groups working in London, and will collect, support and publicise system-changing ideas and voices. Whilst the main focus of the work is London, as NSUN is an England-wide charity, there will be opportunities to influence at a national level.
We would particularly welcome applications from individuals from marginalised or racialised communities, and from individuals who do not have a traditional policy or research background.
The role is currently home-based. Specifically we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
