Job Description

LMK (www.justletmeknow.org) is looking for passionate and organized educators (LMK Leaders) to run community workshops, aimed at young people aged between 11 and 24. Through engaging, relatable, workshops you will help young people identify signs of healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours, provide strategies for them to recognise the early warning signs of abuse and give them tools to keep themselves and their friends safe. LMK Leaders will be trained to deliver workshops, engage young people in safe and supportive conversations, provide valuable feedback to the charity’s leadership team, and play a pivotal role in determining the direction of LMK’s curriculum and programming.

You will be responsible for running a variety of workshops in:

• Secondary schools
• Youth centres
• Faith based groups or community organisations
• Charities working with young people
• Sports clubs

Background

LMK is a registered charity (www.justletmeknow.org 1191149), that believes every student should receive an empowering and engaging education on healthy and unhealthy relationships. We are dedicated to lowering the statistics around relationship abuse in the UK. Our mission is to make our workshops accessible and relatable to all young people, irrespective of background.

Using film and guided discussions, LMK leaders support teenagers in honest conversations about relationships, inspire them to learn about the issues surrounding abuse and leave them better equipped to enjoy healthy, fulfilling relationships. We explore the 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and include practical lessons young people want to learn about including ‘how to set boundaries’, ‘how to help a friend experiencing abuse’ and ‘how to break up safely.’

Responsibilities

• Assess the needs of young people to correctly plan and deliver interactive workshops in schools and community settings
• Recruit, coach and support mentors (volunteer ambassadors aged 16 plus) in the mentor programme Get trained in healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours – part of the RSE (Relationship Sex Education) curriculum
• Work in partnership and communicate directly with LMK’s school and youth group partners
• Drive forward our evaluation programme – collecting data, as well as providing on-going feedback to LMK
• Use your own networks to recruit new schools and youth groups into the programme
• Lead by example and promote healthy relationship behaviours in your own lives
• Co-design the production of training and educational RSE resources

Skills and Requirements

• Previous experience of teaching or working with young people and a proven ability to connect and motivate this 11 to 24 year old cohort
• A strong commitment to young people and an understanding of factors affecting their lives
•  Excellent communication, interpersonal and teaching skills – including the ability to adapt and think on your feet to get the best out of a group
• A strong network within some of the following: London based schools, youth groups, faith groups, sports clubs, children’s charities and community groups
• The ability to treat young people’s concerns with respect, tact and sensitivity, while being aware of the limits that are required by confidentiality and the boundaries that govern the youth/youth worker relationship
• Strong emotional intelligence and ability to deliver information on sensitive topics, such as domestic abuse, sexual abuse, consent, and bullying
• Tech-savvy, has the ability to lead meetings virtually and use databases to report on programming
• Flexibility to work nontraditional, after-school and occasional weekend hours
• Must be confident, self-motivated, and have a collaborative mindset

CPD and Safeguarding

• Hold a DBS certificate or being willing to let us run a check
• Undertake safeguarding training or have a recent qualification from a recognised provider
• Be familiar with and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, confidentiality, data protection and reporting concerns to an appropriate person
