Sales and Marketing Volunteer Volunteer

Ethical artisanal workshop in Malawi seeks marketing expert to support our mission of empowering women and providing jobs on Likoma Island.

Katundu Likoma is a creative workshop set on the idyllic shores of Lake Malawi. Founded with the objective of empowering women through artisanal training and ethical employment, we now employ 28 artisans from the local community. Our business focuses on the production of handmade lighting and interior items, working primarily with recycled, natural and sustainable materials.

The Company

Katundu’s vision has been built around our passion: designing and creating luxury items in an ethical environment, empowering women and through them the local community. Our project has grown from a small company, based on the remote and idyllic Likoma Island in Malawi, to a workshop with an extremely creative and diverse product range. Our signature range of statement lighting pieces are complimented with hand beaded textiles and interior pieces.

However, due to the impact of covid-19 we have had to reinvent our business model, as we traditionally catered to visiting tourists. We are now aiming at online sales and international exports to support our team of artisans and need your help!

The Role

We are looking for a creative and passionate sales and marketing expert who can assist Katundu in attracting online sales and expanding our retail network in Europe and the US. We want to meet with those who are believers in the power of job creation to alleviate poverty, and have an interest in Africa and interior design.

Some of the jobs which need doing include

• Improving our social media strategy, increasing followers, and ultimately drive online sales.
• Drive retail opportunities in the international lighting & interiors market.
• Optimize our online store and drive traffic.
• Develop visual marketing materials and video content.
• Market trend research and product development.

What you’ll need

We are looking for someone with previous experience in driving sales and growing an online presence. The ideal candidate will have the following qualities;

• Great copywriting skills.
• Digital savviness and previous experience driving social media campaigns.
• Knowledge (and ideally a network) of the international interior design and retail world.
• Knowledge of shopify and optimizing the online store experience.
• Visual design skills.
• A positive, all-hands-on-deck attitude
• Fluency in spoken and written English
