Down Syndrome International (DSi) is looking for an educational professional experienced in working in inclusive education settings in mainstream education in the UK.
DSi’s office is in Exmouth, Devon. The role can be performed remotely but visits to our Exmouth office and to other locations in the UK will be required.
The successful candidate will be working in collaboration with DSi and the Down’s Syndrome Association (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) (DSA) to promote inclusive education for all learners in the UK, including learners with Down syndrome.
The work will include running a national advocacy campaign to share key messages in DSi’s recently published International Guidelines for the Education of Learners with Down Syndrome with key education stakeholders in the UK (to include people with Down syndrome, their families, education professionals and policy makers) and to provide them with training and materials to enable them to undertake their own advocacy campaigns.
The candidate will also research how the UK education system works in relation to the planning and resources currently in place to implement inclusive education and related content and materials of teacher training curricula.
The candidate will create materials and resources to support this work.
The aim of the project is to bring about more positive education outcomes for children, young people and adults, including people with Down syndrome and disabilities, and promote national change to inclusive education policy.
This 12 month project is a pilot study to be subsequently rolled out further in the UK and to be adapted with DSi member organisations in other countries around the world, particularly in the Global South, to work towards more inclusive education systems.
21-35 hours per week (dependent on experience). Flexible daily working hours.
