Head of Education Programmes Four Day Week

Who are we?

CodeBase is Scotland’s Tech Scaler. We’re an ecosystem support organisation that helps people to build better tech startups. We provide education, community and space for startups to grow and we work both nationally and internationally to connect all parts of the tech ecosystem. CodeBase opened in 2014, has grown to support startups in 27 hubs across the UK, and has now been appointed to run the Scottish Government’s Tech Scaler nationwide network.

In addition to the existing core CodeBase sites in Edinburgh, Stirling and Aberdeen, we will be opening further regional hubs in Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Dumfries to increase the Tech Scaler support across Scotland.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with a deep enthusiasm and knowledge of startup and venture building practices to lead the roll-out and ongoing oversight of our new startup and scaleup education programmes.

Education is a key part of our work as the Tech Scaler provider. You’ll be as excited as we are about the key role played by education in the development of the Scottish tech ecosystem and you’ll be enthusiastic about talking to others about how startups work.

You will have worked at a startup before and are looking for a way to use your startup knowledge and mindset to help the next generation of Scotland’s founders succeed. We’re particularly interested in hearing from you if you have taken an active role in startup product development, growth and venture building in the past.

You’ll have experience of managing complex projects with user needs at their heart, and of leading a small team to deliver great outcomes. You’ll be energised by working with people from a range of different backgrounds, perspectives and skill sets to create and deliver programmes for Scotland’s diverse pool of startup founders, potential founders and technology workers.

This is one of several new roles which have been created to deliver Tech Scaler expansion commitments.

What will you be doing?

• Working with the VP of Education to design and develop our Tech Scaler education strategy in response to changing needs of learners across Scotland
• Overseeing our four core education programmes: an online self-paced introductory course; two intensive, hybrid, cohort-based foundational and follow-up programmes; and an advanced training programme provided by Reforge
• Designing, curating and developing our startup education programmes to address the learning needs of founders and startup employees at every stage of the startup creation process
• Leading a team of Education Programme Managers and Coordinators to provide education programmes to online and location-based learners
• Driving appropriate data and feedback collection to improve uptake, engagement, and positive learning outcomes
• Sourcing and developing relationships with expert contributors to curate and develop live, pre-recorded and written learning resources
• Collaborating with the Mentorship team to ensure Mentorship and Education programmes are aligned in driving learning outcomes
• Liaising with departments across CodeBase, in particular Community, Partnerships, Marketing and Place to better understand learners’ needs, identify and develop new learning opportunities and promote programme uptake and engagement
• Monitoring and reporting on our Tech Scaler education KPIs

What do we need from you?

• A thorough understanding of how technology startups and products are created and how they grow
• Very strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience of communicating in front of others through coaching, mentoring, public speaking or teaching
• Experience of programme or project management
• Experience of managing a small team
• Experience of strategic planning driven by audience needs
• Experience of working in a tech startup in a product, engineering, growth or business development role, or as a founder

• Experience of working with external partners or contributors to create or deliver educational content
• Experience designing and delivering cohort-based education programmes either in person, online, or in a hybrid format
• Experience developing and delivering self-paced online courses or educational content marketing
• Experience in community development or management
• Coaching or mentoring skills

• £60k per annum
• 4 day working week
• 23 days holiday + 2 weeks off over Christmas and New Year

About the job

Work Days: This role is 28 hours a week over 4 days (day off to be decided with line manager), 9am – 5pm

Location: Based at one of our hubs, with regular travel to other hub locations and across central Scotland
