Environmental Campaign Coordinator Flexible Remote Volunteer

Lead the #NoBeef environmental campaign supported by Cambridge, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel and academics around the world.

This role is being advertised on AimHi’s account, but is not actually an AimHi role – it’s independent from AimHi, although you will be working with members of the AimHi team.

We’re seeking an experienced Campaign Coordinator to take over leading the #NoBeef campaign

#NoBeef works to…

• Encourage institutions like schools & universities to replace beef and lamb with plant-based foods, to combat emissions, safeguard more space for nature, and to reverse the trend of global extinctions.
• Lobby governments to support our farmers, so that rural communities can flourish as part of the solution, with agro-ecology, rewilding etc.
• Accessibly communicate the most respected science, with the support of top institutions.

This campaign has the potential to become a huge movement, with the initial efforts in developing it having led to very rapid growth and international attention.

With so much support attached to the campaign, from academics through to celebrities and institutions, we are looking for someone to take it over simply because we have become very busy working on AimHi, and are unable to continue running it ourselves.

#NoBeef was designed with behavioural psychology in mind. Much of the team are vegan/vegetarian, but the science is clear that people are much more likely to make changes with the way they eat when they are able to begin with one small, simple step – the most effective small change of them all.

The campaign also acknowledges that voluntary personal lifestyle changes are not enough by themselves to solve the crisis, but that these personal changes lead to greater ownership and empowerment, and ultimately result in much larger positive actions occurring further down the line.

#NoBeef has been adopted by the University of Cambridge’s central catering, Goldsmiths University, Coimbra University, and numerous schools. The campaign is mainly focused on the UK but has an international outlook.

What you’ll need…

• Experience effectively managing projects.
• A background that demonstrates your commitment and dedication.
• Great communication skills, and an ability to get on with everyone.
• Imagination, innovative thinking and an ability to adapt to challenges.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a remote team.
• Great organisation skills.
• A strong interest in (and passion for) ecology, climate and making the world a better place.

What you’ll be doing…

• Leading the campaign, be it with a new creative approach, or continuing with the already successful beginning along the same lines, or a blend.
• Working closely with Matthew Shribman and other members of the #NoBeef team to develop ideas and messaging.
• Speaking to a lot of schools, universities, student unions, businesses to bring them on board with the #NoBeef campaign.
• Sharing and celebrating successes to motivate even further change.
• This role is highly flexible with time requirements likely ranging from 3 – 15 hours per week, but ultimately this is to be agreed together / to work around what you’re able to do.

Nice to haves…

• Some knowledge of ecological science.
• Expertise with social media.
• A pre-existing network of contacts that could enable you to elevate the campaign.
• Experience with Slack and Trello/Notion.
• Experience working with other environmental groups/campaigns.
• A great dog that you can send us pictures of.
